Local lawyers have welcomed the bill stating that if passed, it would bring Brazil closer in line with international laws and provide greater legal certainty for multinationals operating locally. “The bill represents a step closer to a more comprehensive data protection law in Brazil,” says Caio César Carvalho Lima of Opice Blum, Bruno, Abrusio e Vainzof Advogados Associados. “It is important for Brazil and its business landscape to have a general regulation on data protection because it will make it easier for companies and investors to understand the risks and advantages of working in the country, allowing those players to have a clear perspective of what will be allowed and what is forbidden.”
